We built HipChat to make it easy to communicate and collaborate with your company, team, or organization. Your privacy and security is our top priority. You can choose what to say and share with your members in HipChat, but we want you to know that no one outside of your team will be able to access that private and sensitive information.
HipChat, Inc. ("HipChat") owns and runs various websites, including but not limited to hipchat.com (the "Websites"), through which it offers various services and software (the Websites, services and software are referred to as the "Services").
When you register for HipChat we may ask for information such as your name, company name, job title, company size, email address, billing address, credit card information. HipChat uses collected information for the following general purposes: products and services provision, billing, identification and authentication, services improvement, contact, and research.
The information we collect is used to improve the content of our Web pages and the quality of our service, and is not shared with or sold to other organizations for commercial purposes, except to provide products or services you've requested, when we have your permission, or under the following circumstances:
HipChat takes appropriate precautions to protect our users' information. Your information is located on secure servers and encrypted using secure socket layer technology (SSL). We use TLS when you sign into the HipChat application.
By using HipChat for chatting to just one person, you consent to the storage of your chat history on HipChat application as the default option. By using HipChat to chat in rooms with other users, your chat history is saved as the default option. When you use the file transfer feature of HipChat, the file that you transfer is copied and retained on the servers of our third party service provider after the transfer. HipChat does not access or uses these files for any purpose, but you should be aware that these files are not encrypted and that they could be disclosed in legal proceedings or investigations.
HipChat may disclose personally identifiable information under special circumstances, such as to comply with subpoenas or when your actions violate the Terms of Service.It may be necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding suspected or actual illegal activities, including without limitation, fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
HipChat may periodically update this policy. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the email address on your HipChat account or by placing a prominent notice on our site.
