How does the free trial work?

Go ahead, kick the tires. You have full-featured HipChat for 30 days. We know you'll love it, that's why we don't ask for your credit card up front. After 30 days you'll need to upgrade to a paying account to keep using HipChat.

How is HipChat better than traditional IM?

People are on many different public networks (AIM, MSN, Google, etc) and you have to collect all their screennames. HipChat is private and secure with a self-building buddy list. Plus, other chat networks do a poor job with rooms, file sharing, and chat history.

Who can see our chats and files? Do you read them?

Your team's privacy and security is our #1 priority. We've taken measures to make sure only the people you want can access your chats and files. Of course, we will not view your team/company data.

Can we run Hipchat on our own servers?

No. HipChat is a hosted service. This way we can make sure you always have the latest features.

How much does HipChat cost?

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

Nope. You'll be charged monthly and you can cancel or change plans anytime. If you cancel, you'll only be charged for the current month. You won't be charged again after that.

Is HipChat secure?

Yes. Only group members can browse chat history and files. All chat communication is done over an SSL encrypted connection — the same technology used by online retailers and banks.
